We know all of you have seen the little red cans and the ringing bells but do you know the history of them. To take you back in time the Salvation Army first started in London in 1865 by William Booth. Booths mission was to help the thieves, prostitutes, drunkards, and gamblers. Lieutenant Eliza Shirley was the first person to leave England and come to the United States to set it up here. President Grover Cleveland was the first to give them a personal endorsement. The Salvation Army gained seem during there disaster relief following the Galveston hurricane of 1900 and the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. According to Charity Watch the Salvation Army earned an A- to A. For additional learning or to donate go to https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/history-of-the-salvation-army/
