So my purpose for this blog was to go into more detail about the events that are happening at the brewery. Also background about those events and interesting holidays. We have had a wide variety of topics that we have covered in this blog all the way from the end of prohibition to the start of the salvation army. I would say that this is was my favorite social media to run because being a beer snob I was able to cater to topics that fellow beer snobs would want to read about but also keeping it simple enough that your joe 6 pack could understand it. The thing that I learned about blogging is the formatting of only using one space after a period is impossible to get used to. I always have to hit the back space after each period because I automatically do it. I also learned the power of blogs to make them continue the conversation on the different social media platforms. Thank you for reading my blog over the last 10 weeks.

New app

We released a Social Brew app that we are pretty proud of and we want to share it will our loyal fans some features are pictures from events, contact information, our history, and where to find us. But the best part is it is a free app.

Earth Day.

Hello fellow beer drinkers as you may know earth day is this Sunday.  I thought it was only right to talk a little bit about earth day. The start of earth day actually started from a book. The book is Rachel Carson's New York Times best seller Silent Spring in 1962.  The book was about the impacts of pollution on living organisms. The official start of earth day started in 1970. The book sold 500,000 copies in more then 24 countries. The idea came from Gaylord Nelson who was a senator from Wisconsin. The reason that earth day is on April 22nd is because it is half way between spring break and final exams. The reason that it has to do with school because most of the people that were involved in the first earth day were students. 20 million Americans marched in parks, streets, and auditoriums to demonstrate the importance of keeping the world clean. It also achieved a rare political alignment because it brought  Democrats and Republicans together for a common good.

Madden night

We decided that since we have been playing Madden on Sundays every weekend that we should have a post about the history of the Madden video games. The video game series started out in 1988 for computers. The game was originally called John Madden football until 1993 when they shorted it to Madden which it is still currently called. The first console version of the game released in 1990 for the super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Also John Madden was on the cover of the video games until 2000.  After 2000 is when they started using NFL players on the covers.  Madden games have been on every system since super Nintendo. John Madden is a real person he briefly played for the philidepia eagles. But a knee injury kept him from playing for more then a year.  He then was hired as a linebackers coach for the Oakland Raiders in 1967. He was named the head coach of the raiders in 1969.  He retired from coaching in 1978 being the youngest Super Bowl winning coach to have 100 total victories.  From 1979 to 2008 he was a commentator on the football games on television. He was featured on CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC.  Tom Brady is on the newest version of the Madden video game. There is also the madden curse which is that ones a player is on the cover they get injured shorty after the games release. To read more about the madden curse check out this awesome

New beers eve

Sorry for the delay on getting this blog out a day late our marketing team had a few to many pints of social brew last night and forgot to post this. So back on topic new beers eve is an unofficial holiday in the United States to celebrate the end of prohibition. Prohibition was a dark time in the United States were all sales of alcohol were banned and it was illegal to drink. Those dark times lasted from 1920 to 1933.  We can all thank President Roosevelt in ending those dark times on April 6th 1933.  He was quoted in saying at 12:01pm "I think this would be a good time for a beer." Once he said that Anheuser-Busch delivered their beer directly to the president with their Clydesdale drawn carriages. We would also like to thank President Roosevelt for if he didn't end those dark days our brewery wouldn't be here any all the micro breweries like it. When it became legal to drink again the people flocked to their local pubs and circled the block with people who had a 13 year thirst for beer.  It was estimated that in the first 24 hours after it ended the thirsty people consumed  1.5 million gallons of beer. So midnight on Friday we will having a new beers eve party which leads into new beers day. If you are not able to attend please raise a pint to the end of prohibition preferably a micro brew but any brew will do.

Let's talk about board games

Sorry for the delay on the blog the website shut us down but they couldn't keep us down. In honor of our game night we are going to talk about the history of board games. Would anyone of guessed that board games have been around for 5000 years. Which would make them pre historic which is pretty crazy to think. Board games have been around since before language was written down. One of the first games that were created where dice which are used in most games these days. In the same area that board games where created beer was also. The dice looked different then what we are used to now.  They where painted wood, bone, or stones that were painted on one side. Board games were leisure time for the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Board games have been historically geared for adult and weren't geared for children until 500 BCE. The first game that was for children was hop-scotch.  If we wanted to go more modern the game monopoly was invented in 1935.  Hopefully we will see you guys at game night and don't forget to bring your favorite game to play. In this blog you are going to be reading about the history of St Patrick's Day. But first you need to know who St Patrick was. St Patrick's real name isn't Patrick, his real name is Maewyn Succat. Another fun fact to impress your friends St. Patrick wasn't even Irish. Another fun fact about St Patrick's day is that the original color was blue but got changed to green because of Irelands nickname of the emerald isle. On March 17th we are actually celebrating the day that St Patrick died. So now we are going back to the main topic of the history of St Patrick's day. Surprisingly the first actually took place in the United States, in Boston in 1737 if you wanted to be more specific. This is some tips that we here at Social Brew will help you have a best St. Paddy's day.  

• wear green if you don't you will get pinched
• green beer is not an Irish thing stick to Guinness
• remember everybody is Irish on St Paddy's day
• for parties or just sitting home turn on some Irish music 
• watch an Irish movie like boondock saints or the quiet man
• but most of all stay safe out there

We are also releasing an Irish stout just in time for St Paddy's day. So come down to the brewery to try it out and a portion of our sales will go to National Association for Music Education.  That organization is in charge of keeping music inside of our schools.  Here at Social Brew most of us has been in band or choir and see the importance of having music in school we are not saying that we were any good but important all the same. To quote Friedrich Nietzsche " Without music , life would be a mistake"

Want to learn something new today?

Since the Salvation Army was founded on March 10 1880 by the first official meeting  in the United States.  We know all of you have seen the little red cans and the ringing bells but do you know the history of them.  To take you back in time the Salvation Army first started in London in 1865 by William Booth. Booths mission was to help the thieves, prostitutes, drunkards, and gamblers.  Lieutenant Eliza Shirley was the first person to leave England and come to the United States to set it up here.  President Grover Cleveland was the first to give them a personal endorsement.  The Salvation Army gained seem during there disaster relief following the Galveston hurricane of 1900 and the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.  According to Charity Watch the Salvation Army earned an A- to A.  For additional learning or to donate go to https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/history-of-the-salvation-army/

History of brew

Here at Social Brew we feel that it is important not only to focus on the new beers and advances in the brewing field. But we also feel that we should focus on the past and what has brought us to where we are now.  In this post I am going to go though some of the history of brewing in America.  The oldest brewery in America is Yuengling brewing company it is established in Pottsville PA it was founded in 1829.  During prohibition they sold ice cream to help keep the brewery open.  The native Americans were the first ones to actually brew beer in America.  The difference between there brewing and the brewing of the Europeans are the native Americans didn't use barley.  Instead of using barley they used maize, birch sap, and water.  The earliest brewing by none native Americans dates back to 1587.  Quite a few of the early breweries shut down because of prohibition for quite a few breweries went into the soda business.  These are the oldest breweries in Wisconsin out of the 11 oldest still running breweries 5 are located in Wisconsin.

What's in store for Social Brew

Hello everyone I hope you all had a fantastic Valentines Day and enjoyed the BOGO event that was happening at the brewery.  We have some big news here at Social Brew, as you should know from visiting our tap room that we don't just have the same ole beer as other breweries do.  We like to shake it up when it comes to the different beers we brew here.  I am happy to announce we have two new beers that will be hitting the taps in our tap room within soon.  The two beers actually go with two different national holidays.  One being national peanut butter day and pistachio day and you guessed it those are the two beers that will be coming out a peanut butter porter and a pistachio brown ale.  we are going to name our peanut butter porter P.B.P. which is short for peanut butter porter.  We are going to name our pistachio brown ale threat level midnight from Michael Scotts movie from the office.  Keep looking for our blog every Tuesday for brewery news and fun facts.  In closing put those phones down and let's get social.

Being single got you down?

I know it can be rough being single on valentines day hopefully some of you met someone at the singles night.  So I am going to talk about a few things that happened on this day that are not focused on relationships.
In 1929 Al Capone allegedly had 7 gangsters killed.  His men dressed up as police officers that is how they were able to get the jump on the 7 gangsters.  In 1951 Sugar Ray Robinson beats Jake Lamotta & takes the middle weight title.  In 1967 Aretha Franklin recorded her song "Respect" which went to be billboard song of the year in 1967.  In 1985 Whitney Houston debut album is released.  The silence of the lambs movie was released on this day on 1991.  To find out these facts and discover more go to this website www.onthisday.com.  Hopefully this gives you a little bit of a distraction to get though valentines day by learning something new.

Hey Social brew fans,  we just released our Blogger account, which is your number one source for all brewery related news.  On our Blogger account, you can find information about our new beers, current events, and unconventional holiday.  We will also be brewing news and updates.

Social Brew was established in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2017.  Our brewery is guided by the mantra, "Come in and leave with a friend or at least meet someone new."  We like to have fun at work, which is a big part of our process.
